Just Before You Take That Job

The joy of moving out in the morning, the joy of putting on sharp shoes and work attires, the anticipation of getting monthly alerts, the urge of being called a working class guy/girl, the zeal to climb the career ladder has driven lots of youths into untold slavery rather than financial freedom and Job comfort. LET ME EXPLAIN As a young student in the finals of a university, all you anticipated about was graduating from school and being employed in one of the biggest firms in the country, with a driver, P.A, Secretary and your own house. You finally graduate and go for the compulsory NYSC and perform all rituals that comes along with it. Now you are good to go, but 3 years after there seems to be no head way yet. Family members are tired, Parents are complaining, Siblings are murmuring, Guys in the neighborhood are using you as example when stories of unemployment are brought up. But what can you do? you keep asking yourself. Out of anger, ...

Simple ways to post via the NIPOST

Nigerians formerly were misinformed about the NIPOST and it's services, The Nigerian Postal Service , abbreviated as NIPOST, is a government-owned and operated corporation, is the Nigerian postal administration responsible for providing postal services in Nigeria. With more than 20,000 staff and runs at least 5,000 post offices around the country. The Nigerian Postal Service also have the following Business Ventures, EMS (Express Mail Service) , Bulk Post Venture , NIPOST Central Workshop, Philatelic Services, Courier Regulatory Services, Parcel Post Venture and Nipost PostCash.      In the past years we were told the NIPOST is no more functional because of the sudden and rapid growth of mobile phone users in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, but today I want to put it clear to you that NIPOST from live experience is still in good shape as far as I know.      Without much ado, let me tell you some terms and services particular to the NIPOST and postal servi...

No Limit On Naira Debit, Credit Cards Utilization On E-channels – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday said transactions done through electronic channels and Point-of-Sales (POS) terminals are not subject to daily limit as settlement for the cards shall continue to be with inter bank funds.          However, the maximum limit for naira debit and credit cards utilization shall be US$50,000.00 per annum. In addition, daily cash withdrawal limit is pegged at US$300.00 per person per day, and subject to monthly rendition of returns by Authorised Dealer banks and card issuers to the CBN.          This was contained in the new policy measures for 2016/2017 released yesterday by the Apex bank. The new policy measure stated that Naira Debit/Credit cards used locally are not affected and Debit/Credit cards linked to customers domiciliary accounts to be used overseas are also not affected.            According to the CBN, allowable limit of outbound money transfer per tra...

WE ARE THE REASON OUR LEADERS FAIL - Abraham, Ojochenemi

Synergy I know is an act of joining hands to achieve a set of positive goals, but Synergy in Nigerians especially amongst the mediocre is joining hands to achieve goals that either cripple, hack or murder the progress of this great nation. No leader ever want to to fail!!! Am sure, but most failure comes from the followers lack of cooperation towards the set goals.                    Nigeria as a case study has faced series of challenges boiled up by our lack of cooperation, challenges which if in any way faced by any other Sub-Saharan leaders will paralyse or maybe completely doom the nation. Nigeria is undoubtedly a great nation with noble men, but handicapped due to the level of Corruption, Crime, Nepotism and Injustice which has become part and parcel of our daily dealings. I am not taking side here, but my views about Nigeria's inability to move to the next level is still standing o...

Spain Wants To Grab Gibraltar After Brexit, But The UK Is Saying ‘not So Fast

LONDON — Spain warned us this would happen. As it became clear early Friday morning that the UK public had voted to leave the European Union, Spain wasted no time in calling for “joint sovereignty” over Gibraltar, which is a tiny territory of Britain that Spain continues to claim sovereignty over. “The Spanish flag on the Rock is much closer than before,” Spain’s acting foreign minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said in a radio interview. Britain’s Europe minister David Lidington (who surely must be having the craziest day ever), rejected the idea, as did Gibraltar’s chief minister Fabian Picardo. But surely they must have expected this as Garcia-Margallo has already made it pretty clear that Spain was coming for Gibraltar if the vote went a certain way — and even stuck precisely to his timeline for doing so. In the event of a vote for Brexit, “We would be talking about Gibraltar the very next day,” he told Spanish radio earlier this year. Friday afternoon Picardo d...

Herdsmen Attack: The Way Out by Anselm Victory Ojodomo

The unrelenting insecurity, terrorism/insurgency miasma in Nigeria is disturbing. Innocent people are arbitrarily hacked to death, the issue is talked about for a few days, a Committee/Panel is assembled and the whole episode fizzles out sooner than later. Terrorism/Insurgency and insecurity has taken a big toll on innocent lives, public infrastructures and Nigeria’s economy. A recent report suggests Nigeria’s military campaign against terrorism and insurgency may have gulped over N 1 trillion. The incessant killings being perpetrated across the country by the Fulani herdsmen once more brings to focus the need by Nigeria’s security agencies to wake up to their statutory responsibilities and be proactive in intelligence gathering to nip in the bud future possible outbreak of violence between Fulani herdsmen and farmers. Of a truth, the rampaging Fulani herdsmen have become a national plague. As rightly noted by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, who also doubles as ...

Six Ways Brexit Could Hit Americans

The United Kingdom's historic decision to become the first sovereign country to vote to leave the European Union has reverberated across the world. Though it's unclear what a British divorce from Europe may look like, the decision may have caused unintended consequences for many Americans. Here's a look at six ways the Brexit may affect the US. 1. Cheaper holidays to the UK About one in 10 visitors to the UK is American. And the exchange rate for the dollar is better for Americans in the wake of Brexit - it's now worth $1.48, down about 8% from a year ago, and at its lowest level since 1985. This means Americans going to see Big Ben, Stonehenge or Edinburgh Castle this summer can expect their dollar to go a lot further, at least for now. Michael Stitt, president of North America for Travelzoo, told the BBC that he advises any American travellers to the UK to check on the exchange rate right before a trip and to consider taking GBP out while the exchan...

The Bailout Syndrome And The Federalization Of Economic Liabilities As States

The storied federal government bailout to states suggests that, the federal government is becoming rather motherly. The state governors are not getting informative about the issue, but acting picky. You know why? Our states are economic wilderness. The micro-economic environments in the states are anti- growth and anti-development. Bailouts have no fiscal sustainability. The bailout syndrome is a vicious circle. The states will always ask for more like Oliver Twist. The Greece experience had shown that, bailouts are not the solution to financial distress. What is required is financial prudence and creative thinking. Anyway, the economic definition of the word “bailout” is practical and not theoretical. The states economies are the sum total of the national economy. But two halves do not make a whole. The federal government has no economic control over the states. Bailout is being used as a political instrument not as an economic instrument. Nigeria’s economy is disartic...

UNDERSTAND SEX

Sex can be pretty confusing. You may have been told that sex is a sacred act between two married people who love each other very much. But then you turn on your TV and you see quite a different story - people having casual or meaningless sex, using it to get revenge or to control people, or using it to advertise everything from soft drinks to vacuum cleaners. The point is, there’s a lot of bad information floating around about sex. And while you may have already had “The Sex Talk” with your parents, you may still have a few questions. Your parents, your teachers or your doctor would likely be happy to answer your questions, but let’s face it, some of this stuff can be pretty embarrassing Fantasies A sexual fantasy is a picture (image) or thought in your mind that is sexually exciting or pleasurable to you. Sometimes a fantasy is sparked by someone you see or have seen (in real life or in a magazine or video) or that you know. Sometimes a fantasy just pops into your head fo...

The Three Changes Nigeria Needs, By Muhammadu Buhari

Nigeria is at a crossroads. Just over a year ago, people voted in a historic democratic election to end corruption and business as usual, opting instead to build an economy that delivers for all Nigerians. The old order was based on an unsustainable commodities supercycle. While the boom had many positives and contributed to Nigeria becoming Africa’s largest economy, it fostered an epidemic of corruption and inefficiency. Foreign businesses and financial institutions also benefited as some people spent and sometimes hid huge sums abroad, lifted by the rising tide of oil exports and dollar revenues. Now we are living in a new world of low energy prices. The economy has slowed while unemployment and inflation have jumped. Longstanding structural imbalances and overdependence on imports have been cruelly exposed. We are an oil-rich nation that imports most of our gasoline. We are a farming nation that imports most of our basic food staples. This is simply not acceptable ...

LinkedIn bought by Microsoft for $26.2bn in cash

Microsoft is buying the business-focused social network LinkedIn for $26.2bn (£18.5bn) in cash. The agreed deal - at $196 per LinkedIn share, was announced by both companies before the market opened on Wall Street, sending the shares up 49%. Microsoft said that after the acquisition, LinkedIn will “retain its distinct brand, culture and independence”. Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn’s chief executive, said the deal “gives us a chance to change the way the world works”. LinkedIn has 430 million members, which means the deal values each one at more than $60. The network was founded in 2002 and launched in 2003. It floated In New York in 2011 with a value at the time of $4.25bn. The acquisition comes after a huge reversal of fortune for LinkedIn. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: The Negative Effects On A Child.

He cringed when he was told his role in a drama that will be performed in his school. His countenance should have been bright and full of excitement, since the school seldom carryout the aforementioned activity. Bryan, happens to come from a family were domestic violence is at its peak. When he was told his role (as an angry father) in the upcoming drama, he shouted, “NO! I’m not going to act that part,” he went further to give his reasons for saying that, he said at home, his father always beats his mother at every little provocation. His teacher was stunned not just at his comments but when other pupils, were randomly talking about how their parents fought at home. A home where domestic violence is the order of the day, will in no time affect a child negatively. Bryan felt so bad when he was told he was to act as an angry father who will be quarrelling with his wife and always making sure he is not happy with anything she does. Truth be told, what...

Subsidy Removal not enough; Deregularisation? (My take on Fuel Subsidy Removal in Nigeria)

Recalling on the series of events and government that took part in the removal of subsidy on petroleum products in Nigeria, you can help me count down from the Rigim of Gen. Sanni Abacha in 1996. Subsidy on petroleum products was removed and a wiser way to spend the Billions of Naira was to input into Capital Projects, Building Schools and Colleges, Scholarship Scheme and development in some sector of the economy by setting up the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), now re branded as the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF). You don't need to be born in the 60's or 70's to understand what am talking about. Then, Fuel price increased from #20 to between #40 and #45. Counting again to the second event of petroleum product subsidy removal in this rich Oil producing nation was the January 1st, 2012. Fuel subsidy removal by the President, Goodluck Jonathan, People's Democratic Party (PDP) lead administration, which which raised our official pump price from #65 set as a temporal ...

How to store open bottles of wine

From full-bodied reds to champagne, you’re probably doing it wrong. Our expert debunks the myths about serving, chilling and teaspoons in the bottle. How full is your fridge? I ask this because you may have to make room for some more bottles. According to renowned wine expert Jancis Robinson, author of The 24 Hour Wine Expert, any open bottle – even a red – should be kept in the fridge . Reds in the fridge? Yup, it’s a thing. Particularly with lighter reds such as Beaujolais and pinot noir. It brings out all their fresh fruit flavours. Even full-bodied reds such as cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and malbec benefit from being served cooler than we’re accustomed to. The advice to “serve at room temperature” dates from the days before central heating. Think cool rather than cold – more like 17C or 18C. If you have space, by all means pop any leftover bottles in the fridge but bring these fuller bodied reds back up to coofuller temperature b...

15 Visible Signs To Know That Your Friends Are Not Actually Your Friends

Friends are definitely a big part of our being and our social lives. As humans, we need friends. We need people to share feelings, have conversations, and to be part of our social networks. Friends are there for us when we need them and we’re there for them. Good friends are always there for us and bring out the best in us. On the other hand, sometimes you find out that a friend isn’t a friend. Perhaps they were just taking advantage of you or taking a service you provided. Once they didn’t need it anymore, they revealed their true colors. It is extremely important to choose your friends wisely, and not just because they provide you a service. True friends should be lively, supportive, uplifting, and bring out the best in you. They should appreciate the real you and love your personality. And you should provide that same support as well. 1. Backbiting This one is common among fake friends. Backbiting is saying nasty things about someone in their...

SIMPLE WAYS TO SHOW COURTESY

1. Don't break up with someone over text messages. 2. In case you miss a call, drop a message as soon as possible if you're unable to call. 3. Pay back borrowed money as soon as possible no matter how little the amount is. Don't assume that they don't need it and never make them ask you for it. 4. Don't press your phone or use headphones when someone is having a conversation with you. Un plug the headsets from your ears even if nothing is playing and give them your undivided attention. 5. When using someone else's phone or computer, Don't go through their stuff without permission. 6. Always leave the last piece (of meat) for the person who bought it unless they insist they won't eat it. 7. Don't use speaker phone to have a two person conversation unless your hand are unable to hold the phone. 8. When someone else cooks for you, offer to help clean the kitchen. 9.
