Nigerians formerly were misinformed about the NIPOST and it's services, The Nigerian Postal Service , abbreviated as NIPOST, is a government-owned and operated corporation, is the Nigerian postal administration responsible for providing postal services in Nigeria. Without much ado, let me tell you some terms and services particular to the NIPOST and postal services in NIgeria and the world in General.
POSTAGE STAMP
A postage stamp is a small piece of paper that is purchased and displayed on an item of mail as evidence of payment of postage. Typically, stamps are printed on special custom-made paper ,
show a national designation and a denomination (value) say Naira (#) on the front, and have an adhesive gum on the back or are self- adhesive . Postage stamps are purchased from a postal administration or other authorized vendor, and are used to pay for the costs involved in moving mail, as well as other business necessities such as insurance and registration. They are sometimes a source of net profit to the issuing agency, especially when sold to collectors who will not actually use them for postage.
Stamps are usually rectangular, but triangles or other shapes are occasionally used. The stamp is affixed to an envelope or other postal cover (e.g., packet, box, mailing cylinder) the customer wishes to send. The item is then processed by the postal system, where a postmark, sometimes known as a cancellation mark, is usually applied in overlapping manner to stamp and cover. This procedure marks the stamp as used to prevent its reuse. In modern usage, postmarks generally indicate the date and point of origin of the mailing. The mailed item is then delivered to the address the customer has applied to the envelope or parcel.

Nigeria postal service as we were formally mislead is still working all fine and going, but some of us has spent a lot sending our letters via FAX, UPS, DHL FedEx and the rest which are some worth expensive as far as I know based on my experience.
NIPOST posts your mails mainly via two popular medium, the Direct mailing service and the Fast mailing service with price differences.
The Direct is the conventional way in which mails are sent and it takes the normal travel time of any transport medium based on when the mail office has enough letter to dispatch, the later is an accelerated process, especially for emergency and fast action cases, the mails are post as it lands at the post office counter.
My Experience with NIPOST
Just last week in my prestigious hometown Ankpa, I had no option than to send a letter to Amazon, for Tax Information- you will understand this more if you're an Amazon affiliate, so it took me hell looking for DHL, UPS and the rest of those mailing services company we thought were the best, I consulted up to five persons I though were smart like me, but nothing good came from them, I even planned to go stand beside a major federal high way maybe for hours thinking i'll for once see vehicle or dispatch van or motorcycle, but to know avail. But trust!!! old men now, what we think we know because we use mobile phone is not up to what they know without those gadgets, I met one retire principal in my area, whom is known for his wield and sudden quake of grammar. Baba Nah Letter I wan Post oh!!! Ah, you looking for post office? Is post office still working? My question popped out, and he laughed and said, we youth no longer take cognisance of common things around us, he said whatever I want to post even maybe to heaven, GO THERE!!! With doubt I whistled a bike man and in a couple of minutes we are here. What do you want? My most loved question, coming from an old man with plenty white hair sitting at the counter -(with questions running through my mind; na the security be this? If nah NIPOST staff, him surpose don retire now?) I want to post a letter, to where? The US. Let's see, as I dropped it on the counter, the old looking man (like NIPOST like STAFF) reached for his postal stamp, placing some at the tip for the envelope, he told me #150 One Hundred and Fifty Naira Only. With the #150 equal to the amount of the sum of each stamp. Shai -will it reach US with this price tag? My first question with my eyes rolling, Ah Ah that's the price, it will my dear, and Baba in the post office started lecture.........
NOW: HOW TO POST
To post letter through the post office which is easier and cheaper is as simple as coming along with your letter(s) with the mailing address clearly written, placing postal stamps on the envelope and your letter is due to fly.
For luggage, a diamond scale is available for weighing the load and the price is calculated per Kg. As simple as that. For some kind of packages like the EMS which i've explained what it means above, a tracking code is generated from the computer and given to you, this you can personally track the location of your mail or luggage per se.
Most times my major concern is how un kept the NIPOST offices are and how the environ looks like that, which no one will ever come to as his/her daily workshop, some of the NIPOST post offices are dilapidated and most with cub webs like it's the spiders playing ground.
Don't see this as an ad, just try them, am sure u'll not regret doing so.
